OLDHAM EVENING CHRONICLE

Date: Monday 17th July 06

Nasim puts pedals to the

metal to claim top award

SKIDMORES Cycles, one of Oldham's longest established retail businesses, became the first winner of the Oldham Retail Awards Overall Trophy at a ceremony in the Liquid Nightclub, Retiro Street.

Owner Nasim Khan, from Clarksfield, took over the business last year. Since then, he has transformed the Union Street premises.

Skidmores was shortlisted in two categories — First Impressions and Instore Promotions.

It won the Instore Presentation sector before being handed the overall prize, presented by Councillor Ann Wingate, Deputy Mayor of Oldham.

A total of 65 retail outlets and Oldham market traders took part.

Mr Khan moved into the business on discovering that the owner,  his Union Street neighbour, was looking to retire and described himself as "surprised and delighted"

to have been rewarded in these first Oldham awards, a national pilot promoted by Smartskills Retail and sponsored locally by the Town Centre Partnership and the Oldham section of Greater Manchester Chamber.
